Life on YouTube
The following YouTube playlist packages the 15 videos I' ve done about Second Life.
The first seven videos are parts of a live presentation done in 2008 at the annual UMUC Writing Conference in Maryland and were designed as an introduction to Second Life for educators who had only heard of SL and were curious, but who had not played in the game. So, the first four parts cover the history of Second Life and the relevance of virtual worlds, role playing and Web 2.0 features to educators and the online classroom. The next four parts are brief tours of Escribir House, an in-world writing center for UMUC; Escribir Park, a presentation area for students; and Association Works 2 Island, which is also available to my students.
A second set of videos are tutorials for students who are preparting to give PowerPoint presentations in Escribir Park. These lessons cover registering and completing the Second Life orientation, setting up a PowerPoint presenter, coverting PowerPoint slides into Second Life textures, and then the nuts and bolts of using the avatar to present. Finally, one video demonstrates the emPod Player installed above Escribir House and a last video demonstrates how to use the Fraps recorder together with Camtasia to produce a screen recording of Second Life.
Angle brackets at each side of the player can be used to scroll through the videos, as can the thumbnails at the bottom of the player.
